CFP: AI and Artworks, Vienna, April 16–17, 2026

The workshop “AI and Artworks: Object Detection, Image Classification and Iconographic Analysis” will explore how AI is transforming the study of drawn, painted, and printed works. Possible topics include:

  • AI in detecting, classifying, and analysing artworks
  • Challenges of pretrained models and creating new training data
  • Controlled vocabularies in AI-based art history
  • AI tools tailored for art historical research
  • Ethical and legal considerations

Confirmed keynote speakers: Peter Bell (Marburg University), Etienne Posthumus (FIZ Karlsruhe) & Hans Brandhorst (Iconclass).

Researchers from all disciplines and career stages are invited to submit a 300-word abstract, a short CV (max. 100 words), and indicate a preference for a 20-minute talk or poster by October 31, 2025.

Participation is free of charge; selected speakers will receive accommodation, with a limited number of travel grants available.
